Commonsense Organics is committed to providing top quality, fresh organic produce.
We started out selling produce from Common Property, our own Bio-Gro certified market garden in Te Horo. Now we deal directly with New Zealand growers to ensure that organic produce is fresh from the paddock to your plate.

This underpins everything we do, it is the foundation of Commonsense Organics. When we first set the business up we thought “of course we are a sustainable business!”. Then we joined the Sustainable Business Network and discovered there was a whole lot more to being truly sustainable. This is a work in progress, the more we do, the more we find to do.

Fair Trade and Social Responsibility
Buy New Zealand made! Or fair trade...
We choose local and fair trade goods and will not knowingly stock any product that contains genetically engineered ingredients, harmful preservatives, additives or flavour enhancers. Buying and supporting local industry means our growers and producers get a fair price for their products.
Our definition of New Zealand made
- for food, gardening supplies and books: This includes all NZ grown produce, processed foods and gardening supplies that are made with a majority of New Zealand ingredients.
- for cosmetics, health supplements and cleaning products: This includes products which are formulated in New Zealand by a New Zealand owned company.
Health and Well-being
We stock products for health and well-being
We stock homeopathic, biodynamic and naturopathic remedies on the grounds that these systems relate to conventional medicine in much the same way as organics relate to conventional agriculture. We stock herbal remedies, supplements and cosmetics that avoid the use of chemicals and we have fully qualified naturopaths working in our Wellington and Kilbirnie stores.
