Fonterra drops organic milk suppliers

Commonsense Organics finds it sad and short sighted that Fonterra is dropping half of its organic dairy farmers.

We believe it is important to be loyal to farmers and growers and to take a wider view than just looking at the short term financial bottom line. If the major factor in retailing food is to force food prices down, it is inevitable that the quality of the food will also be forced down.

We owe it to the organic farmers to look at the social bottom line as well. Farming requires long term planning and the marketing and sales of organic products also require a long term approach. Organic farmers give us all an environmental dividend by caring for their land and ensuring it does not pollute rivers and ground waters.

Most of our milk comes from independant suppliers, with whom we have a personal relationship. We are incredibly grateful to our customers for their loyalty and vision. It means our sales and support for our organic suppliers can continue to grow.
