Get started on your spring planting!
Hopefully your lovely garden has been loaded with compost, mulched to perfection and is ready for spring planting!
If you have not quite managed to get this together- you can always add
Great gardens grow from great soil. You can make your own compost tea, fish fertiliser, seaweed fertiliser....These will help your little babies grow!
Seeds to plant this month and their companions
We have listed each plant and their favourite companions- companion planting is a traditional way to plant with the idea that certain plants are good for each other.
Cabbage
- beans, beetroot, celery, mint, thyme, sage, rosemary and dill
Celery
- tomatoes, dill, beans and leeks
Carrots
- peas, radish, lettuce, chives, sage, onions, and leeks
Lettuce
- carrots, onions, strawberries and beetroot
Peas
- ok with most vegetables except onions, garlic and shallots
Potatoes
- peas, beans, cabbage and sweet corn
Radish
- lettuce, peas and chervil
Beetroot
- onions, silverbeet, kohlrabi, lettuce, cabbage and beans
Beans
- carrots, cucumbers, cabbage, lettuce, peas, parsley and cauliflower
Silverbeet
- onions, beetroot, lavender
Some handy hints
To discourage the white butterfly: plant rosemary, sage, hyssop, thyme, dill, southenrnwood, mint or chammomile
Peas and seed potatoes planted now- could be ready to eat on Christmas day!

When you plant your potatoes, put a handful of kelp in the dirt, they will love it and reward you for your effort!
Now is the time to plant ‘Green Manure’ in your empty garden beds. This will prepare the soil for Autumn
