About organics

Growing Organics

Organic food is grown without the use of chemicals that can harm humans, animals and the soil

Organic growers use time-proven solutions and environmentally sustainable tools to build and maintain the fertility of the soil and to control weeds, disease and pests. They do not rely on chemicals to kill insects, and drugs to keep animals well. Acceptable conditions for animals and respect for their behavioural needs are important components of organic farming.

Organics Aotearoa New Zealand is a registered charity that helps to promote organics in Aotearoa, New Zealand. They recently released the New Zealand Organic Report 2010.

Organic certification

This gives you a clear audit trail from the paddock to the plate

A certified organic product meets an agreed international standard during production processing and retailing. As retailers we rely on the certifying process to guarantee our customers that our products are organic. All of our stores are BioGro certified.

There are four certifying bodies in New Zealand:

AsureQuality
Bio-Gro NZ
Demeter
Organic Farm NZ

We also support the Maori certification, Hua Parakore

We accept International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM) accredited certifications.
